Leanne Salyzyn, B.Comm, CIRP

Leanne Salyzyn grew up in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and attended St. Mary’s University in Halifax, graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1988. The following year, she relocated to Quebec City and attended Laval University studying French for Non-Francophones and subsequently her MBA in French. In 1990 she moved to Montreal and obtained employment at a multi-national accounting firm in the corporate insolvency department. She continued to upgrade her education at Concordia University. In 1991, she moved to Toronto and obtained employment at an insolvency firm specializing in consumer insolvency. She obtained the status of Insolvency Counselor and Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional in 1996. After succeeding at the National Insolvency Exam (NIE) she obtained her Federal license as a Trustee in Bankruptcy in 1997 for the jurisdiction of Ontario. In 1998, she returned to Nova Scotia to fulfill her dream of operating her own insolvency practice and working with her father, Mike. Leanne is the CEO and managing partner of Salyzyn & Associates.

Leanne has been a National board member of the Canadian Association of Insolvency & Restructuring Professionals (CAIRP) since 2008. She was vice president and past president of the Nova Scotia Association of Insolvency & Restructuring Professionals (NSAIRP). She is the only woman to ever hold these esteemed positions. Over the past two decades Leanne has volunteered countless hours to both National and the Provincial insolvency committees such as the NSAIRP, CAIRP Standards of Professional Practice Committee, CAIRP Governance Committee, CAIRP Education Committee and the Consumer Insolvency Small Practice Committee. She has volunteered as an official marker of the NIE exam and was a CAIRP annual conference committee rep for Halifax in 2008.

She is a firm believer is giving back to the community and proudly supports the MS Society, Pheonix Youth and the Canadian Cancer Society.

Mike Salyzyn, BBA, CIRP

Mike Salyzyn, BBA, CIRP

Mike Salyzyn was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, but resides in Dartmouth, NS.  He graduated from Mount St. Vincent University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, receiving the Ted Osborne Memorial Award.  He is a Certified General Accountant.

 Mike was the first Director of the Orderly Payment of Debts program for the Province of Nova Scotia.  In 1973, he joined the Federal bankruptcy branch of Industry Canada (then “Consumer and Corporate Affairs Canada”).  For many years, he worked out of Ottawa, ON, as Assistant Superintendent of Bankruptcy (Development and Training).  Eventually, he took an early retirement from the Federal government and formed Salyzyn & Associates Limited in Lower Sackville, NS.

 Mike has over 40 years experience in the insolvency field.   He has been a Trustee in Bankruptcy since 1981.  He is a member of the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals (CAIRP) and a certified Bankruptcy Insolvency Counsellor.

 Mike was instrumental in establishing the Insolvency Counsellor’s course in Canada, development of the Official Receiver course for the Federal Government (Bankruptcy Division – Ottawa) and establishment of the Trustee Tutorials for educational development of future trustees.   He has served on numerous committees for the CAIRP over the years and has been involved in the drafting of Amendments to the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act over many decades.

 In his spare time, Mike can be found playing hard in a hockey rink or on a golf course.

Dawn Golding, BA, CIRP

Dawn originates from southern Ontario.  She has attended Acadia University and Dalhousie University.  Prior to joining Salyzyn & Associates Limited, Dawn was the operations manager for a hardwood flooring exporter.  She has been employed with Salyzyn and Associates Limited since 1998 and earned her license as a Trustee in Bankruptcy in 2004.  She is a chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional (CIRP) and a Qualified BIA Counsellor.   Dawn is a member of the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals (CAIRP).  She regularly volunteers to assist the CAIRP by test writing and reviewing examinations for the National Insolvency Qualification Program.  She is presently designated as resident trustee for the Kentville area by the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy and manages the Kentville location of Salyzyn & Associates Limited.  Dawn takes great care in assisting people to evaluate all of their options to find the best solution to their financial difficulties.

Dawn resides in Kentville with her husband and three children.   When she is not involved in the activities of her active family, Dawn is busy showing her horses at events throughout the Maritimes.
